Here Are Five Reasons Why You Should Go Vegan Today!

The New Year is slowly approaching and many of you will have started making your New Year resolutions. You may know that I am vegan, or at least veggie when I’m somewhere there are no vegan options and I have to eat something. Thus, I decided to make my last post of 2020 about why going vegan should be your New Year’s resolution. 🐼

I wasn’t always vegan. When I was young, I grew up like most of us eating chicken nuggets and cheese sandwiches. I did have an aversion to animal cruelty from a young age, though, which became especially prominent during the Greek Easter appalling lamb feast tradition. My aversion included not buying leather goods and avoiding brands that were not cruelty-free, principles I adhere to even to this day. 🐰

However, it wasn’t until I moved to Brighton that I decided to fully adopt a vegan diet, and strive to avoid animal cruelty in anything I buy -even in regards to household goods like dish soap and laundry detergent. You might or might not know, that Brighton is quite the vegan-friendly and humanitarian city; for which I’m grateful as it opened my eyes to all the awful things happening in this world for profit.

For example, I was disgusted to find out the price animals pay for luxurious wool and cashmere goods to be produced. 🤢 Therefore, I try my best to not support companies that make these items or at least, buy second-hand, and I believe that you should, too.

The above are only a few reasons why going vegan should be your New Year’s resolution. Below, you’ll find the top 5 reasons to go vegan in 2021. I, also, encourage you to visit PeTA and WWF and educate yourself on the horrors happening in this planet – even if you decide veganism is not for you.

1. Animals never gave their consent to use their bodies for food. 🐷

Humans are not the centre of the universe, and other creatures’ lives MATTER. Commerce is no excuse for murder; suffering feels the same whether it is inflicted upon a human or an animal. As a vegan you will be a true non-violence supporter.

2. It’s the best way to help animals: every vegan saves more than 100 animals a year. 🐮

3. Humans were not created to eat meat.  🐟

We can all survive just fine on a vegan diet. Meat and dairy are often contaminated with feces, blood, and other bodily fluids. More on this here.

4. Veganism is environmentalism and environmentalism protects humans too! 🌎

Meat-producing livestock consume vast quantities of crops that could feed people. Producing a meat-centered diet requires burning 3 times more fossil fuels than for a meat-free diet. The burning of fossil fuels results in the greenhouse effects, which produced global warming.

The amount of water used in production of the average cow is sufficient to float a a large naval ship. If every human ate a meat-centered diet, the world’s known oil reserves would last a mere 13 years. They would last 260 years if humans stopped eating meat altogether.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, two-thirds of the world’s major fishing grounds and stocks are now exhausted or seriously depleted. In addition, every year 24,000 fishermen worldwide die on the job, making fishing the most dangerous occupation in the world.

5. Because of animal agriculture, the world sees a global pandemic of influenza three or four times per century. 🐮

Ducks are often the original incubators for a new subtype. In turn, pigs are periodically able to act as hosts for both the avian viruses and human ones. Within the pigs’ lungs, the transspecies viruses swap genetic material, creating a new strain that may be passed back to humans.

Historically, the most fertile place for this to happen has been south China, where billions of pigs, domesticated ducks, and people all live in close proximity to one another. And lest we forget, that the 2020 Covid-19 outbreak was caused by the existance of wet markets.

I hope this post gave you some insight on the reasons why veganism is the way to go. I wish you have a Happy New Year and enjoy New Year’s Day whatever you do! Forecast shows we can expect snow here on New Year’s Eve! 🌨🎉

See you next year! M. x
