6 Easy Christmas Tree Ideas For Small Spaces

November is flying by (like the rest of 2021 to be honest) and it’s time to get the Christmas decorations out of storage. Decorating the Christmas tree is one of the highlights of the holiday season for me. Wherever I’ve lived, no matter how small, I always found some space for a Christmas tree. But what happens if you live in a tiny studio and you can’t or don’t want to decorate a full blown Christmas tree? Or perhaps, you want to make a difference this year and try something new.

My inspiration for this post came from a TikTok video, where the creator put some lights on a wall in a tree shape, added a Christmas garland, added some Christmas bobbles and voila!  there you have a DIY Christmas tree. That made me think of all the Christmas tree alternatives that exist and how useful they are for people who live in small spaces. Equally, not everyone can afford to splurge on a big tree, and sometimes getting a mini tree can be a bit depressing and worse than no tree at all.

So, I decided to hunt down all the Christmas tree alternatives and I present you with six easy Christmas tree ideas for small spaces.

1. the half tree

This half tree is sold exclusively by Balsam Hill and allows you to display what appears to be a full tree but takes up half the floor space.

2. the simple hanging tree

Sold by Amazon this hanging Christmas tree gives the illusion of a real Christmas tree, but only takes half the effort. It is a modern clever idea to display some green but save in space! 😊

3. the lit wall tree

Another Amazon find, the lit wall tree will give you the illusion of a decorated tree but again save you valuable space. What I love about this tree is that it’s made of wood and string and has a rustic vibe.

4. the half size wooden tree

Another type of wooden tree, but with a completely different set up, can be bought from Etsy seller GoCreateBuild. The extra details of artificial pine cones and wooden star give this half size tree a modern yet still traditional look.🎄

5. the festive shelving tree

I found this shelving tree idea from Lia Griffith. It’s a DIY poplar and macrame tree and you can make it by visiting her blog to get the instructions! What I particularly love about this tree is that you can get especially creative with decorating it. Because the tree has poplar wood shelves, you can adorn them with some of your favorite holiday botanicals and decor.

6. the pallet tree

This DIY rustic wood stain pallet tree is your go-to choice if you want to make a difference this year. Forget the boring Christmas wreaths and bobbles. Make this pallet tree from scratch and decorate it with wooden bobbles for an unforgettable look. You could also go the extra mile and paint the wood red or gold or any other colour you prefer instead of green. You can learn how to make this alternative Christmas tree on the Rust-Oleum website.

These are all six Christmas tree alternative ideas for small spaces. What do you think? Would you try any of these? I have already decorated my tree (holiday enthusiast anyone?😅) but if I hadn’t I would totally buy the half tree, because it would be perfect for my small flat. Tell me your thoughts in the comments, I’d love to hear if you have any recommendations for tree alternatives!
